K Smith Healthy Living

Whether you found me through my Instagram (@KSmithHealthyLiving) or stumbled upon my K. Smith Mercantile store, welcome!

My journey to wellness began in August 2024. One restless night—awake as usual for no clear reason, with hot flashes and poor sleep as likely culprits—I grabbed my phone and started mindlessly scrolling through Instagram. That’s when an interview popped up on my feed. I’m not sure what made me stop and listen—it wasn’t my usual late-night fare of funny cat videos, people falling, or updates on reality TV—but something caught my attention.

I listened to a snippet, then more, and finally tracked down the full interview on YouTube. I spent the next hour completely absorbed. By the end, I was floored. This information wasn't just about calories in versus calories out. It was about the chronic disease epidemic ravaging our country while we sit back and do nothing. The statistics and stories shared in the interview were staggering, and the passion of the speakers was contagious.

That night, I immediately ordered the book and started diving into podcasts featuring the same experts, and new ones. Every conversation opened my eyes a little more—not just about healing our bodies but about the bigger picture.

I realized just how little I understood about not only food but the entire food system. Sure, I thought I knew the basics: good food is on the perimeter of the store, bad food in the middle aisles; an apple is good, fast food is bad. But the truth? I didn’t really know anything.

At the time, my “diet” consisted of tortilla chips topped with shredded cheese, avocado, olives, and Sriracha—washed down with nightly glasses of wine. Obviously, I knew this wasn't great, BUT it was a lot better than fast food I would l tell myself. I hadn’t grasped how far off track this routine was.

By the next morning, I felt energized and determined to learn everything I could. I immersed myself in more books, podcasts, and interviews, each one adding to my growing understanding.  And, it's been non-stop since then...  the very next day I was shopping for Organic foods and reading labels, I ordered myself an Oura ring to monitor my sleep, and I contacted my doctor and requested a prescription for a continuous blood glucose monitor...., and that is where/how it all began.
